Page Priority
Choose destinations by customer value and topical relevance.
List priority service pages alongside useful supporting resources. Record each page's purpose and current internal links before adding more. A high-traffic article is a good link source only when its readers could reasonably benefit from the destination.
Link Opportunities
Find natural places to connect existing content.
Search published copy for concepts that need a fuller explanation or a next step. Add the link to the relevant sentence or module and verify its destination. Avoid inserting a service link into unrelated passages solely because the source page has traffic.
Anchor Text Quality
Tell readers what they will find after clicking.
Use concise labels that describe the destination in context. Read the surrounding sentence aloud to catch forced wording. Repeated navigation labels can stay consistent; contextual links should fit the specific explanation rather than follow an artificial anchor-text quota.
Architecture and Crawl Depth
Check that important routes work from real entry pages.
Start at the homepage, category hubs and popular landing pages, then follow the path to a service or contact page. Review pagination, breadcrumbs and mobile navigation. Record orphaned or dead-end content before deciding whether to link, improve or consolidate it.
User Experience
Keep contextual links helpful on small screens.
Test tap targets, link visibility and the page's reading flow. Add related resources where the reader has a clear next question. After a move or merger, update the source link to the intended final URL and verify that its label still makes sense.
Measurement
Evaluate link changes with a dated record.
Log source URLs, destination URLs and the reason for each addition. Compare search visibility and useful onward visits over a suitable period, allowing for other changes. Analytics attribution can assist evaluation but does not prove that one new internal link caused a lead.
